At Hearts Together Therapy, we do not diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which requires an assessment from a qualified psychologist, paediatrician or psychiatrist. Instead, please book a Case Management appointment to receive support finding a provider.

As an immigrant and a person of color, Laarni is passionate about creating safe and exciting spaces for everyone who walks through her door. Laarni identifies her intersections as a human, woman, mom and immigrant as essential in her practice believing strongly that we thrive when there is safe, authentic space where you are seen, heard, respected, and recognized. Laarni utilizes a variety of techniques and modalities and have worked closely with families, survivors of violence and abuse, children in conflict with the law, and people (young and old) with various mental health labels. Laarni loves working with people and is always keen in discovering their strengths and harnessing their potential. Additionally, Laarni is also a Tagalog-speaking clinician. Laarni works with client sharing heart-felt discussion and enthusiasm in the discovery of what it means to be human at every stage of your life milestones. Laarni hopes to work with you to provide more clarity on what is troubling you to get you unstuck. Laarni values a relational emphasis in her work, seeing you as a person first and the problem you are coming with as what is getting in the way of you living your life as your authentic self.

When she is not busy being a counsellor, you will find Laarni kitchen, eating or cooking, trying out new hobbies, or simply moving about (outdoors and indoors).

Tina is a highly experienced and skilled Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a strong focus on supporting children, youth, and their families. Tina comes from a unique behavioural lens from her education with her Master of Science in Education Rehabilitation Counselling. With decades of experience, she has successfully helped individuals facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Tina specializes in working with clients who have neurodiverse profiles, such as ADHD and ASD, and possesses a deep understanding of the mental health issues that can impact functioning in various settings. Additionally, Tina provides valuable guidance and support for parents and caregivers as they navigate the complexities of parenthood.

Tina’s unwavering commitment lies in helping her clients reach their full potential. She deeply understands the underlying causes and functions of behaviours, enabling her to provide effective tools and strategies for behaviour management. She creates a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative therapeutic environment where individuals can thrive. With a client-centered approach, Tina ensures that each person’s unique needs and goals are at the forefront of therapy. She incorporates attachment and strength-based principles, recognizing the significance.

Taking a holistic view of her clients’ lives. Tina offers online, in-person, and community-based interventions to ensure therapy is tailored to their specific circumstances. She is passionate about empowering individuals and families, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate challenges successfully. As a part of her comprehensive behavioural assessment service, Tina offers in-school observations to complete to identify specific behavioural difficulties and underlying reasons the youth continues to exhibit them.

Tina immigrated from Chicago in 1999. She is the mother of 3 amazing sons and a 7 month old Golden Doodle pup named Canelo Oliver. She loves having family time going camping, jumping into the cold ocean, sailing, biking, hiking, attending plays, concerts and musicals as well as dancing and listening to all genres of music. When she is not traveling or trying to keep up with her sons, you will find her in her garden, hanging out with friends, or cooking food.

Alani is licensed both as a Registered Clinical Social Worker (MSW, RCSW) and Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia, as well as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Ontario. She specializes in working with parents and families for children’s behavioural interventions ages 6-12, as well as teens and young adults ages 19-35 going through transitional life changes in their relationships, work, and education. 

As the founder of Hearts Together Therapy, Alani uses a multi-modal approach to her therapy practice, drawing strategies from CBT, DBT, ACT and Narrative Therapy. She is a trained DBT Therapist (to help with emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and focusing on doing what works) as well as an Emotion-focused Level 1 trained Therapist (adept with doing chair work). She is also trained in Emotion-focused Family Therapy (caregiver-focused intervention) and Gottman Method for couples counselling. As a Vietnamese speaking therapist, Alani is passionate about providing a culturally-responsive therapy approach and training other therapists to do the same.

Alani was born and raised in GTA and moved to Vancouver 3 years ago where she was able to achieve advanced clinical licensure to diagnose mental health conditions (from the DSM-V) for her clients in BC. With 10 years of psychotherapy experience, Alani also provides Clinical Supervision to other therapists and is working towards her provisional RCC-ACS licensure.  In her free time, Alani enjoys dance, figure skating, and re-exploring what play can look like for a now adult who grew up in an immigrant refugee-status, working-class family.
